Bug#2243: xterm vanishes when it's big (some escape sequence?)

With PAGER=less in the environment, open an xterm, set the font to
unreadable, open to a fairly large window (e.g. >200 lines), then type
man mkdir

The xterm will vanish silently -- no core file, not even an error
message in .xsession-errors

PAGER=more works around the problem.

[I wanted to mail someone a formatted manual page, but emacs wasn't
giving me a decent cleaned up copy, and I didn't want to think up a
sed expression to clean it up, so I wanted to copy it out of xterm and
paste it into my mail message.]
