I've uploaded an interim, static libs-only, ELF version until the new
maintainer can take over.

I have some good news and some bad news.  The ncurses developers have
added support for ELF shared libs, including assigning version
numbers, to the main distribution.  Unfortunately, they haven't shown
a strong commitement to maintaining binary comptaibility.  The major
version number has already changed once.
