I agree.

I consider the problem a bug in xbase, so I'm making a new revision
which fixes it.  This revision will check whether /usr/bin/X11/xdm
and /usr/bin/X11/xfs exist before running start-stop-daemon to stop
them.  It will be available by this evening.
