Io faccio cosi`:

xsltproc --stringparam html.stylesheet rivet.css --nonet -o ../doc/html/ ../doc/rivet-chunk.xsl ../doc/rivet.xml

Dove rivet-chunk.xsl fa:

<xsl:import
    href="/usr/share/sgml/docbook/stylesheet/xsl/nwalsh/html/chunk.xsl"/>

  <xsl:include href="rivet.xsl"/>

E --stringparam html.stylesheet rivet.css e` per poter usare un
cascading stylesheet per i file HTML che vengono generati.

E` chiaramente la versione XML che usa XSLT come stylesheet, ma se non
lo state gia` usando, dovreste passare a quello, visto che e` quello
dove ci lavorano gli sviluppatori di docbook stesso da un bel po'.

Vuoi dare una mano a tradurre la documentazione di Rivet?:-)
