Debian 9 (stretch) is a frozen release and packages are not updated
there, only major security issues get applied.

asesprite is now under a proprietary license, so cannot be re-added to
Debian main after the removal mentioned by Andreas. If you or anyone
else wants to use or package it, I would suggest using LibreSprite
instead, or another program like GrafX2, which is already available in
Debian:
