(appart for one or two gamelists) I don't have any strong preferences in this case but perhaps you can enhance https://pkg-games.alioth.debian.org/game-data/ to incorporate some screenshots, so that it looks more like http://blends.debian.org/games/tasks/finest? And then a link to the wiki page and vice versa? >> you have basically two choices. > >> To concentrate on the tool itself and to promote it by writing good >> documentation. > > The tool can also promote itself by a network effect; > I'll be advised in some readme.Debian then user will > realise it supports also other games. Yes, it is usually a combination of many different effects. By word of mouth, README, Wiki pages, blog posts and so on. >> Or you can expand the homepage by writing about "why do >> we need g-d-p in the first place? > > There is already this piece of information; but it's in quite obscure location: > http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-games/game-data-packager.git/tree/doc/why.mdwn > > I'd need to copy some bits of this into the wiki page & > other randoms pros & cons discussed in emails. The information in why.mdwn would be well suited for a "About" page on g-d-p's homepage. Typical menu structure: About | List of supported games | Links | Contact >> Why are there multiple doom or quake engines? >> How can I successfully play the games? >> Are there any walkthrough guides? >> Are there any alternatives? >> Is it possible to create data for those games? >> How can it be done? >> How can I contact the developers? etc. pp. > Wow, that'd be awesome; but I have no idea who will provide that. > > Would be adding an "mobygames id" in G-D-P game definition > used to build an URL to this site OK for a start ? > > Or a link to wikipedia ? In most cases I would prefer links to wikipedia and to Debian's own wiki where interested users could add additional information about the game. That would also simplify the maintenance work a little. The links would appear on the homepage and people could easily edit wiki pages if they wanted to contribute new information to a game. Cheers, Markus
