If it works, why not? (When reminiscense first appeared, it was still
a bit buggy, but more or less ok, didn't check since then). The Flashback
game data won't change in the foreseeable future :-)

And the point of non-free is moot in this case; reminiscense
allows you to play a classic game, just like many other currently
supported games, e.g. ScummVM, Exult and Doom/Quake for the original
game data.
