OpenAL Soft Library
Hello,
I want to bring this issue up again about the openal soft library replacing
the openal library currently in the archive.
Again, here's the packages that use openal
>> grep-dctrl -FBuild-Depends,Build-Depends-Indep \
-s Package libopenal-dev -n /var/lib/apt/lists/*_Sources
funguloids
glest
tremulous
warsow
antigrav
boson
btanks
chromium
crystalspace
fgfs-atlas
flightgear
freealut
haskell-openal
hugs98
mplayer
nel
openarena
osgal
pyopenal
rss-glx
scorched3d
simgear
soya
supertuxkart
taoframework
torcs
trigger
vegastrike
warzone2100
xpilot-ng
supertux (experimental packages)
Now here's the list of packages that builds and runs without making any
changes.
glest
supertuxkart
antigravitaattori (source: antigrav)
scorched3d
xpilot-ng-client-sdl (source: xpilot-ng)
xpilot-ng-client-x11 (source: xpilot-ng)
flightgear (and dependency simgear)
vegastrike
warzone2100
trigger
openarena
btanks
supertux (experimental packages)
tremulous
torcs
mplayer
ogreal (only in games team svn)
warsow
Here's packages that required me to make a change for building and/or running.
chromium (build issue, disabled use of alc[GS]etAudioChannel extensions,
fixed in SVN branch
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-games/packages/branches/chromium/chromium-openal-soft/?rev=0&sc=0)
funguloids (runtime issue, fixed in SVN, patch already sent upstream)
Here's a package that builds fine but gives me a problem.
boson (I've tried numerous settings, but I receive no sound)
And here are the rest of the packages which I didn't test, most of them
however are libraries or bindings of some sort.
crystalspace
fgfs-atlas
haskell-openal
hugs98
nel
osgal
pyopenal
rss-glx
soya
taoframework
freealut
Alright. I'll be working on resolving the issue with boson. I should point out
that with the regular openal, there's still a bug with the sound. Instead of
having no sound, all sound effects are repeated twice. Thus, with either the
old openal, or the openal-soft library, this bug makes the game less fun to
play.
Aside from that, I now have more confidence that openal-soft can be released
with Lenny. In fact, I think openal-soft can be uploaded directly to
unstable.
I'm still looking for someone to sponsor openal-soft from mentors.d.n.

I'm also going to email all the package maintainers for the various libraries
and bindings I didn't test, so they can do their own testing of their
packages with openal-soft.
