Yes, I had a nice mail exchange with solar designer, the upstream author
about this, and he clarified to me, that john is released under GPL, and
he will hopefully include such a statemnet in the next release of john.

Great, I'm waiting for them and will maybe send some of them to solar
designer, so that they get included in the upstream.
