Speedup: replaced system("mkdir ...") with mkdir() calls.

Speedup: avoid extracting control info twice.
More speedups are possible here.

Speedup: avoid using dpkg-deb to unpack debs; construct a pipeline
with ar, gzip, and tar instead. It turns out to be far faster.
* Together, these changes made for a speed increase of some 30%
when checking packages that have to be unpacked.
