Dan, please use -B for dpkg-buildpackage, or use dpkg-genchanges -B or
get the debbuild.tar for compiling.  

And for the egcs maintainer: why use you -0.1 ??   Is this policity? 
It should declare that egcs isn't well tested, or? I think 'unstable' say
what it means. Let the minor numbers for NMU without source upload.
