Maybe you are right. I have done a quick grep "Depends:.*awk" on
/var/lib/dpkg/available and just three packages depend on it (including
new debmake).
However I don't see that base-files depend on awk, so I will remove
debmake awk dependency when somebody adds it to base-files (I will
probably do it myself).
