First Venezuelan Minidebconf ============================ Debian Venezuela [1], the Venezuelan developers and users group, is proud to announce the First Venezuelan Minidebconf, to take place from October 14 to 21, 2006, in the city of Maturin in Venezuela. After some months of hard work, Debian Venezuela has the support of several public and private sponsors, including the world's third largest oil company (state-owned PDVSA), the national communications comission and other energy-related companies as well as private and public educational institutions. The local developers group has invited Debian Developers Enrico Zini and Benjamin "Mako" Hill, as well as Álvaro López Ortega, main developer of the Cherokee Web Server project. Some of the eleven local Debian package maintainers will give talks and workshops, mainly aimed at promoting Debian and improving the overall working environment of the group. Debian Venezuela has always aimed at promoting collaboration with the Debian Project, and finding out new ways to help in Debian. The Venezuelan Minidebconf is part of a larger event, the 4th World Forum on Free Knowledge [2], where developers from KDE, Gnome, Mono and Perl (as well as non-FLOSS related speakers) are coming to Venezuela to share their experiences in sharing knowledge and information. The 4th FMCL is endorsed by the Venezuelan government, which in 2004 declared the mandatory use of FLOSS in all instances of the public administration. Debian Venezuela hopes that the FMCL attendants and sponsors will share common interests and understand Debian's relevance in the migration process going on in Venezuela. Those willing and able to attend this event should please check the information in the wiki page [3] or contact any member of Debian Venezuela in #debian-ve at irc.debian.org. A keysigning and CACert assurance party will also take place at the Minidebconf. Information about live audio/video streaming and chat sessions is available at the wiki page [3]. See you there!
