Various sources list it as "Microsoft Media Server protocol" or 
"MultiMedia Stream protocol." From what I can glean, those are both 
interpolations from the protocol prefix "mms://"

The website http://get.to/sdp has some non-free "FreeWare" as well as 
some documents on the MMS protocol that they figured out themselves. 
The mmsclient upstream web page links here as a reference.
