You can hit enter at that five second prompt, and then do the initrd
work by hand, mount the root fs, and then change the password there...

It's very, very, fun working in the minimal initrd environment. I've had
to repair borked machines running SCSI software RAID there... :-(

Remember, "echo *" almost suffices for "ls"
