pbuilder and setserial

Hey all,

  For some time now, pbuilder isn't able to finish creating/upgrading a
chroot because of this problem:

Setting up setserial (2.17-31) ...
Updating your /etc/serial.conf world to /var/lib/setserial thinking.
removing the old setserial entry in the rcn.d directories
update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/setserial exists during rc.d purge (continuing)
Update complete.
Saving state of known serial devices...

at this point it hangs and has to be interrupted with Ctrl-C. pbuilder is set up to:

USEPROC=yes
USEDEVPTS=yes
USEDEVFS=no

but changing these to any combination of the values doesn't have any effect.
After Ctrl-C the installation process continutes until it reaches
console-tools where it also hangs until Ctrl-C is pressed.

Does anybody have the same problem and/or any cure to it?

TIA,

marek
