Re: Bug#181028: cdrecord: promotes non-free software

This whole thread seems more than a little hypocritcal to me, given:

joey@dragon:~>grep non-free debian/packages/base-config/apt-setup.templates
Template: apt-setup/non-free
_Description: Use non-free software?
 Some non-free software has been made to work with Debian. Though this
 software is free, it depends on non-free software for its operation. This

joey@dragon:~>(for pkg in $(grep ^Package: /var/lib/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_unstable_non-free_binary-i386_Packages| cut -d ' ' -f 2); do if egrep -q "(Recommends|Suggests):.*$pkg" /var/lib/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Packages; then echo $pkg; fi; done) | wc -l
     63

Anyone really interested in cutting down on Suggestions on non-free
softwre in Debian could reduce some much more user-visible ones by going
through that list and finding instances of Suggests that are just out of
date -- where there is an equivilant free alternative now -- and getting
them changed.

joey@dragon:~>grep 'Suggests:.*netscape' /var/lib/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Packages
Suggests: httpd, xbel-utils | netscape | mozilla
Suggests: netscape
Suggests: netscape
Suggests: gtk-engines-gtkstep (>= 1.4-3), netscape
Suggests: mozilla (>= M17-1) | netscape-base-4

Of course I guess keeping at least one flamewar burning on this list is
more fun.
