This seems limited:
iconv '-t ascii//TRANSLIT'
ÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓÔÕÖ×ØÙÚ
??????AE????????????????x???
Of these characters, only Æ and × (multiplication sign) were
transliterated.
(It's trivial to add transliterations, though.)
