Not even for the rudiments necessry to blit to it as a dumb framebuffer, and handle VT switches? Such simple operations can hardly be the subject of patent protection, or whatever SGI is guarding. (I presume it must be something like patents, since I do not have the impression SGI is going to be authoring closed-source XFree86 server modules for this hardware a la NVidia). Admittedly, it would be a shame to run such nice graphics hardware in such a handicapped configuration, but it's even more of a shame not to be able to use it at all. -- G.
