ok, that didn't made any difference at all. to me, it looks like kde
ignores these alternatives completely.
if anyone wants to try it out, the image is available at:
http://live.debian.net/etch-builds/current/i386/debian-live-etch-i386-kde-desktop.iso
or build one yourself with 'make-live -d etch -p kde-desktop'.
