udev wizards? Or login script wizards? (cdrom/floppy/usb ... permission problem)

Yo!

What is the recognized way to allow access to local devices (usb, sound,
floppy, cdrom, ...) to users logged in on the console?

Our users are served from LDAP, and I'd very much prefer not to add them to
groups cdrom, sound, ... in the LDAP database, as these groups are
different on some other clients in a heterogenous environment.

Is it even possible in unix to add users to a group dynamically? Or should
udev or login script set permissions on those devices?

cheers
