Yep,
seriously, that's quite how I see it, too. It's design would't interfere with 
debconf. Debconf may even benefit from it.

Ok, the tarball is outdated and cvs development by the two founders has been 
mostly on ice this year due to their limited time. (Exept work on a cut down 
WBEM-only fork)

Still, I think it would be worth while to pick up the work on it, comparing 
it's design and use-cases  to other options and considering that it really 
wouln't be a start from zero.
