There are a number of projects like this floating around in Debian, including;

I'm also currently a Maemo Council member and am starting a project that will try to return any changes done in Maemo back to Debian. You're most welcome to help. It hasn't started yet and I have to make sure to update the census first since I keep getting emails saying there's info missing. ;)
