Yeah, the only thing is that I'm not sure whether the BTS is the right
place to keep track of such an blurb (and I'm pretty sure that I don't
want maintainers to have complete control over the ack message.)

What I'd suggest instead is sending an autoresponse to messages with
Resent-Message-Id: <handler\.\d+\.B\.> (messages to submit@) that you
receive for a specific package directly from the maintainer.

If and when mole (or its equivalent) becomes available and its
possible to have centrally organized information for packages that can
be controleld by maintainer, I'd consider allowing a paragraph (or so)
of configurable text, but currently the framework to even allow
specific people to modify bits of text doesn't exist in the BTS, and
it's not high on my list of things to add.
