i don't really understand what your're checksumming against what...
could you be more specific? namely, what directory you are in...

the error message is while debian-installer is running? what is the
exact error message?  can you switch to tty2 and check /var/log/syslog
for more details about the error?

which versions of simple-cdd and debian-cd are you using?
