I've been away from home and rather busy recently, so I've only been answering urgent/personal emails and taking little notice of the lists... but this caught my attention, and is something I have thought would be a good idea for some time now. > > > Mailing List Request. > > > > Basic Purpose:- > > > For this list, is multi-part. > > A need is seen, within the context of Debian, for a repository for all > discussions and notifications that are not list specific... <snip> > > NAME. > > > This is open to suggestion at this stage. > > Some possibilities might be:- Debian- wholistic, debian-adjunct, or > whatever is felt to have application. hmmm... debian-floodrelief, debian-safetyvalve, debian-social? debian-gossip? I quite like the idea of 'social' as it fulfils a social function - allowing Debianites to socialise as opposed to holding purely Debian-technical discussions - but it might also be misleading. > RATIONALE. > > All of the above under the heading 'Basic Purpose' and more would be > applicable here. Inclined to agree; I think people might perhaps be less restrained on a list created for the purpose than when being knowingly off-topic on d-u. > Any volunteers for moderators? I ran a bulletin board for a year or so once. OTOH I am sometimes away for extended periods with minimal net access (as at present). I have a high degree of tolerance for most kinds of flameworthy material but very little for one or two pet hates :-) I would be uncomfortable holding the authority and don't think I would be likely to instigate action to unsubscribe someone. If lack of moderators was going to be the sole obstacle to the list coming into existence I think I would be prepared to step into the breach, as I do feel that the Debian community would benefit from such a list. > WEB ARCHIVE. > > > I think the answer is no for this one. But again, open to suggestion. Agree re server space. I've been maintaining a personal archive of d-u for a year and a bit now, and would do the same for this list. If there was a desire for it and agreement that it should be done, I might be able to obtain a few megs of free webspace and keep the most recent few weeks available there. -- Pigeon Be kind to pigeons Get my GPG key here: http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x21C61F7F
