Like I mentioned earlier, with my Fluxbox maintainer hat on, getting rid of traditional menu system for desktop sounds great; might even lead to fixing this upstream, rather then doing it in the Debian packaging. Everyone else seems to be using xdg-menu these days anyway; taking a guess (I've not checked this out), GNOME, KDE and Xfce likely all use XDG menus, so I think Fluxbox is the largest consumer.
