I really hope that you wrote this email (and a few other recent ones)
with your upstart maintainer hat on, and not your ctte member hat.

Unless I have missed something, pretty much all the statements you have
made (in a rather confrontational and certain tone) about systemd in
this mail have been refuted. It seems that you have misunderstood some
important parts of the systemd architecture, and instead of asking
anyone to clarify, you went on to construct contra-systemd arguments
from them.

That can happen, and I am pretty sure that I have done the same. In my
opinion, however, this is not acceptable from a ctte member who is
expected to make a decision about the better init system for Debian as a
whole.

I do not believe that being the upstart maintainer disqualifies you from
making this decision as a ctte member. I believe, however, that it
places a special responsibility on you to be especially diligent in your
research on systemd. Being the upstart maintainer means you have twice
as much time available to learn about systemd (every other ctte member
needs to split his time between upstart and systemd), and it means that
you have to work extra hard to obtain at least a roughly comparable
familiarity with both systemd and upstart.

this. Quite the contrary, I have the impression that you are using your
familiarity with upstart as a reason to not investigate systemd in much
depth.


To put a long story short, I hope you are going to spend some more time
on systemd before casting a vote.
