if you are suggesting your help/hand/brain/time/... to the project, I
think it would also be nice to bridge some gaps with derivatives
"specializing" in this field, e.g. http://cloudbiolinux.org/ -- they
have some developments which I believe could be adopted/packaged for
Debian proper.
Also, as you might know, bioinformatics is quite heavily covered by
the Debian Med blend -- http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/tasks/
