【发行 51 期 DWN 了】 您现在正在阅读的是第五十一期的 DWN，这也表示这是我
们从 Debian 计画中收集有趣的资讯、写成新闻、校对及翻译的第五十一个星期。
虽然英文版的 DWN 仅仅由只有一个主要编辑的小团队制作，但还是因为有许多朋

【2002 GNU/Linux 时间表】 一年将结束之际，正是我们停下脚步回顾这一年的时
候。Linux 周报[1]（Linux Weekly News）列出了一份 2002 GNU/Linux 时间表[2]
（timeline）。虽然全世界都受到经济不景气的影响，自由软体依然持续地发展茁

【新的 Woody 开机磁片】 Eduard Bloch 自愿[3]协调[4]制作下一个版本 Debian
的开机磁片相关事宜。Debian 3.0 的下一个更新版预计在 r1 发行两个月后推出，
也就是说，至少还有一个半月的时间。新的开机磁片会修正部份平台上已知的严重
问题，并且会使用较新的 Linux 核心。

【寻求赞助】 今年年底，数个支持自由软体的非营利组织在寻求赞助。对美国的
居民来说，这种捐献赞助是可以扣税的。自由软体基金会[5]（FSF）有超过三分之
二的资金来自个人的损献。FSF 最近发起了附属会员计画[6]（associate
membership program）。GNOME 基金会希望能提供部份的开发者交通费补助[7]，
让他们可以参加一年一度的 GUADEC。而 Software in the Public Interest[8]
（SPI）则是接受各界对 Debian 计画的赞助[9]。

【检验使用者是否存在】 Matt Hope 注意到[10]有些套件经由检查 /etc/passwd
来测试使用者是否存在。他认为在一些使用如 NIS 或 LDAP 等其它的身份验证机制
的系统上，这种方式会有问题。Matt Zimmerman 建议[11]他对这一类的套件登录
bug，并要求这些套件的维护者改用 getent。

【GTK+ 2.2】 Akira Tagoh 回报[12] GTK+ 小组发表了 Gimp Toolkit[13] 函式库
（GTK+）2.2 版。新版的函式库和 2.0 版相容，不过和 libgnomeui 有介面上的问
题。因此[14]，GNOME 2 无法使用 GTK 2.2，但是 GNOME 2.1 却需要这个新的
GTK+。所以 Akira 打算过渡性地把这些新版的套件放到 unstable 中。

【将有更多的 Alpha 及 Sparc 使用者加入？】 Jaldhar Vyas 告诉[15]我们
RedHat 官方停止[16]了对 Alpha 及 Sparc 平台的支援。而 Debian 不但仍然
支援这两个平台，使用者对 Debian 提供的自由软体、软体修正、和及时的安全
性更新也相当地满意。

【KDE 3.0.5a 的 woody 套件包】 Ralf Nolden 说[17]他已经把 KDE 3.0.5a 的
套件包上传至 KDE 主伺服器中。这次上传的套件中包括了最新的 KDE 安全性更新
。您可以利用 apt-get 从 download.us.kde.org[18] 安装这些套件。Ralf 在第
二天也上传了[19] KDevelop 2.1.4 的套件包。

【把 Debian GNU/Linux 放到一张 32 MB CompactFlash 中】 Bao C. Ha 解说[20]
他把 Debian 缩减到小于 32 MB 的方法。Bao 一开始利用 debootstrap 制作了一
个包含虚拟私有网路（VPN）、防火墙、路由器（router）等功能共 121 MB 的
Debian 系统。在移除里面的文件档案，并使用 cloop 核心模组（kernel module）
压缩之后，他成功地将系统缩减为 27.6 MB。他所制作出来的映像档[21]是供
OpenBrick[22] 使用的。OpenBrick 是一个针对开放原始码／自由软体解决方案
（solution）开发的小型硬体平台。然而，这个系统要使用非自由软体、且只提供二
进位档的一个特定 XFree86 版本。

【Debian 3.0r1 光碟映像档】 Steve McIntyre 说[23]他制作了一来套用来把
Debian 3.0 更新为 3.0r1 的光碟映像档。最初这一套映像档是两张满满的光碟，
里头包含了 Debian 支援的 11 个平台所需要的档案。不过在采纳 Jason Andrade
的意见[24]后，Steve 为每一个平台分别制作了更新用的光碟。虽然这种方式要占
较多的空间，但是对使用者来说比较容易使用，同时也节省了用来传输的频宽。等
到提供下载的伺服器恢复后（可能得要好几天的时间），这些映像档可以在这里[25]
取得。

【清理 /etc】 Joey Hess 查看[26]他的 /etc 目录，发现其中有许多在套件移除
时没有确实清理掉的东西，像是无用的链结档（symlinks）和目录等。他有个解决
这个问题构想：制作一个特别的 Debian 套件，在它的 postrm 中寻找并清除其它
套件遗留下来的东西。

【重新编译所有的 Debian 套件】 Junichi Uekawa 回报[27]了他执行 pbuilder[28]
的结果。为了重新编译所有的套件，他从12月9日开始编译，直到12月24日才完成。
除了 529 个套件编译失败之外，他成功地编译了超过 6000 个套件。Gerhard Tonn
则是在 GCC 3.2 成为 Debian 的标准编译器之前，尝试使用它重新编译[29]所有的
