Without any fanfare, the woody base system was frozen this weekend, right
on schedule. The only evidence of the freeze is occasional "Package is
frozen, not considering" lines in update_excuses. Next up, in about a month:
Standard and tasks freeze.
"Not considering" means that the scripts that construct the testing
distribution won't even try to include the named version of the named
package from unstable in testing. (For the packages they do consider, they
might still fail if upgrading the package in testing would break something
else in testing.
"Standard" is packages with "Priority: standard" in their control record.
"Tasks" include any package that will be installed as part of one of the
tasks offered by tasksel. Both GNOME and KDE are part of the "desktop
environment" task.
Unofficial woody .isos are available already; see the Debian CD Image web
site for a link to them. Release-quality images won't be available until
everything has frozen.
