if you are running "devfs" make sure it get the devfsd or else if
wouldn't mount either
if you get devfsd install, it will be back to the orginal dev setting
e.g /dev/hda1
/dev/hd(ide control order by a , b , c )( partition num )
in lilo it look like this
e.g root = /dev/hda1
don't need to append, root is part of the value for lilo

did you make sure initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.12* , if you get cramfs image
