  * New upstream version, incorporating many of our patches -
    this is a bugfix release, and I consider it release-critical.
  * This does not eliminate the memory leaks, as many of them
    are not the fault of this package but of greater design problems
    in Perl; it does reduce them to about 40K from 3MB in my tests,
    so I am downgrading the bugs.
  * Clean up mod_perl_version.h better; reduce diff bloat further.
  * Do not install mod_perl.exp (AIX specific linker file).
  * Add #DEBHELPER# to postinst/prerm to handle /usr/doc.
  * Remove the 'Restart Apache?' question in the postinst.
    Also remove the 'Enable?' question. Let the user do this by hand.
    This is fine; we'll appear commented out in the configuration
    file if we are installed along with apache, and otherwise
    the user probably knows what they want to do. The "Restart?"
    question was also removed from the prerm, and we are now
    human-interaction-free, as we should be.
  * Remove silly bash dependency in the postinst.

  * patch for Alpha (and 64-bit arches) (closes: Bug#58666);
    comment from the bug fixer, David Huggins-Daines:
      work around broken C++ compiler on Alpha, also instantiate
      Vector<size_t> on Alpha since sizeof(size_t) != sizeof(int). This
      can't be done on 32-bit archs since gcc 2.95 will complain about
      multiple instantiations, however it has to be done on 64-bit ones -
      this is just a quick hack, upstream needs to fix it by checking the
      size of size_t in their configure script.
  * since the preceeding fix is needed for Alpha compilation, and since
    that patch does not affect any other architectures, this should be
    included in Potato.

    with the new method using "update-alternatives" in
    the maintainer scripts. This is absolutely required for potato,
    because potato's xfree86-common no longer supports this obsolete
    command. Closes: #53689
  * Fix the bug "can not start xterm". Thanks to Cormac McGuinness
    for his report and the solution. Closes: #58261
  * The current version no longer conflicts with asclock, and
    the current potato system can have both of afterstep and wmaker
    without difficulties. Closes: #36043
  * The previous version (1.6.10-1) already used "--enable-i18n"

  * I can't reproduce this bug. I think the current version already
    fixes this bug at the upstream level. Closes: #22904

    do harm on asclassic's configuration file (~/.steprc).

    during a dpkg run. To make this work, I had to add a shutdown method to

  * Denastified the object property references all over. I just hope I didn't
    remove any direct accesses that were meant to be there (often a good

    confused. Not fixed. Temporary solution, move old i386 boot
    disks out of the source archive.
  * Added a file tasks/popularity-contest listing packages by order of
    usefulness (results given by the popularity contest of course). This
    file is included at the end of the Debian_potato task in order to
    include the packages that are widely used on the first CD if possible.
  * Added a bunch of set -e.
  * Added pi-makelist target to generate the *.list files used by the
    Pseudo Image Kit. Needs isoinfo in the cdwrite package.
  * Updated README and README.devel. Explained that the main source
    is on CVS and that patch should apply on the CVS tree not on the
    source package available on the Debian FTP.
  * Added possibility to include local packages on the CD set. Documented
    it. Closes: #50640

    major problem with the changed libwrap which was causing serious

  * Non-maintainer upload, approved by the maintainer.
  * Remove the suidregister mess caused by file diversions in old packages
    in preinst, closes: #57933.
  * Don't ship {chap,pap}-secrets or `provider' chatscript/peer file as
    conffiles, but as examples. Everybody needs to modify these files to
    use them, so dpkg conffile prompt gets to be annoying. Instead, if these
    files don't already exist in their regular locations, install these
    examples in postinst, and remove them in postrm on purge, closes: #58170.
  * Fixed a couple of typos in docs/comments, and explicitely tightened
    some permissions. Updated the copyrights and licenses (yuck! yuck! yuck!).
  * Default value for number of redial attempts with persist option was
    changed from 0 to 10 upstream by introducing a new `maxfail' option.
    It won't be reverted because it can cause unpredictable results, so
    a note (with rationale) was added: in README.Debian, and in postinst
    through debconf or if debconf doesn't exist, through normal cat/read,
    closes: #51588. (added Suggests: debconf to control file for that)
  * Added the following commented out options with descriptions to the
    options file: maxfail, nopersist, persist, demand, idle, holdoff,
    connect-delay.
  * Partially fixed bug #48478 in plog, by making it tail /var/log/syslog,
    grepping for ' pppd\[', if /var/log/ppp.log is not found. Maybe it
    should print out a warning message about local2, not sure. Added a note
    in plog(1) about the local2.*\t-/var/log/ppp.log in /etc/syslog.conf.
  * If they exist, chown root.adm and chmod 640 ppp.log and ppp-connect-errors
    files in /var/log, with postinst, just in case (the former file will be
    set up that way by sysklogd's daily cron).

  * Added patch from Gerhard Poul to create xferreport in cron.daily,

  * Added patch from Christian Hammers so the init.d script reliably kills
    the daemon even in inetd mode, and without using killall, closes:
    #48487, #45853.
  * Added directory umask to default config, closes: #42279.
  * Included more documentation and READMEs.
  * Disabled mod_pgsql and statically linked to library for mod_mysql,
    closes: #51120, #50342.
  * Enabled new module mod_quota.
