  * Fix "guard code" in configure.in that tests for gcc version
greater than 2.8 (will fail when 3.0 comes out.) This fixes
*half* of the release-critical bug report #55246.
  * The other half of RC bug #55246 is not really a glib problem;
G_GNUC_EXTENSION arguably should be defined on all platforms, but
that's up to upstream to change this. It's been reported upstream as
gnome bug #6328, http://bugs.gnome.org/db/63/6328.html. In any case,
gentoo should be using G_GINT64_CONSTANT(12345) for portably declaring
64-bit constants, instead of the undocumented, internal,
    not-defined-on-all-platforms G_GNUC_EXTENSION. I will be reassigning
the remainder of RC bug #55246 to gentoo.

  * debian/copyright: I fixed an annoying problem regarding the copyright
for this package, as I have modified it to use the GNU Readline
library and have released only my modifications under the GPL. Now,
Readline is GPL'd and I have to release the whole modified work under

the preious situation. This discussion started in debian-legal (look

  * Corrected three ways badly written packages could make
    dpkg-preconfigure die:
     - They could try to ask questions that didn't exist.
     - They could try to ask questions using garbage priority values.
     - They could have garbage template files that lack required fields.
All three are now handled sanely, and debconf even tells the client
what stupid thing it has done in the first 2 cases. To make that work,
I made FrontEnd::add much simpler, and moved a lot of the failure-prone
code into Confmodule::command_input, and did some other
    reorganizations.
  * Checked and I don't think any more cases like this exist in debconf.
  * While I was at it, I shut up messages about failing to make
noninteractive elements in debug 2 mode. A common FAQ causer.
  * Added a Debian.bugtemplate file, in an attempt to get people to report
bugs that are actually useful. This is used by newer reportbug
    packages.

modified)to make dh_installwm use new window manager registration method,
update-alternatives. Closes: #52156, #34684 (latter bug is obsolete)
  * Fixed $dh{flavor} to be upper-case.
  * Deprecated dh_installemavcsen --number; use --priority instead. Also,
the option parser requires the parameter be a number now. And,
dh_installwm now accepts --priority, and window manager packages should
    start using it.
  * dh_installwm now behaves like a proper debhelper command, and reads
debian/<package>.wm too. This is a small behavior change; filenames
specified on the command line no longer apply to all packages it acts
on. I can't belive this program existed for 2 years with such a glaring
problem; I guess most people don't need ot register 5 wm's in 3
sub-packages. Anyway, it can handle such things now. :-)
  * Moved Dh_*.pm to /usr/lib/perl5/Debian/Debhelper. *big* change.

  * It seems that sometimes nmbd or smbd are not killed when upgrading.
I think it is because in samba's prerm script I was calling
start-stop-daemon with the --pidfile switch and in old versions of
Samba the nmbd and smbd daemons did not store their PIDs in a file in
/var/samba/. I changed debian/samba.prerm so the existence of the

  * Oppsss! samba-common doesn't depend on libcupsys1 so the binaries
in this package are broken unless libcupsys1 is installed.
samba-common has a "grave" bug because of this. Instead of adding
libcupsys1 to the Depends: list of each package in debian/control
I investigated why dh_shlibs was not picking the dependency
automatically. It turns out that it's probably a bug in libcupsys1
because the format of its shlibs file is not correct. I fixed that
file (/var/lib/dpkg/info/libcupsys1.shlibs) and now dependencies are
picked correctly. I'll talk to the libcupsys1 maintainer.
I think the addition of CUPS support to Samba is a big change that
should not go into Frozen. So, I decided to back up the addition
of CUPS support I did in 2.0.6-4 to minimize problems. I'll add
CUPS support again when I start working on Samba for Woody.

  * Added upstream patch for the STIL view library that corrects a bug which
can especially occur on systems mounting file systems from different
operating systems, e.g. VFAT, because VFAT and STIL are case insensitive
while Linux is not. Furthermore, this version corrects a bug appearing if
there are longer lines in the STIL data file than expected so far.
This was observed, what strange coincidence, in the current HVSC (3.3)
    tunes.
  * It was reported that xsidplay does not really close when pressing a
'Close' button of the WindowManager. Although there exist possible
patches for this, none of them is included as it was shown, that this
bug is actually a qt2.0 bug which is supposed to be fixed in qt2.1
    thus fixing xsidplay automagically.
