New Debian i386 Packages

These i386 packages were installed into the Debian hierarchy in the
last week:

----- !!! HIGH URGENCY PACKAGES !!! -----

bplay - Buffered audio file player/recorder
bplay 0.96-6 -> 0.96-7 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/sound
bplay 0.96-7 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/sound
bplay (0.96-7) frozen unstable; urgency=high
  * New maintainer
  * Removed suid from the binary. This is not needed, and is a possible
    security risk. Furthermore, it allowed any user on the system to play
    sound, and maybe even spy on you by recording from the microphone!
    Instead people allowed to this should be in group sound.

dosemu - The Linux DOS Emulator
dosemu 0.66.7-10 -> 0.66.7-11 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/otherosfs
dosemu 0.66.7-10 -> 0.66.7-11 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/otherosfs
dosemu (0.66.7-11) frozen unstable; urgency=high
  * Made /tmp uses secure in dexe scripts (fixes #23596).
  * Recoded the mkfontdir section in postinst/postrm (fixes #21419).

dwww - Read all on-line documentation via WWW
dwww 1.4.3-1 -> 1.4.3.2-0.1 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/doc
dwww 1.4.3.2-0.1 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/doc
dwww (1.4.3.2-0.1) frozen unstable; urgency=high
  * Fix use of /tmp for tempfiles in a lot of places: tempfiles are now
    created in /var/spool/dwww. Also fixed earlier "fix" that used
    /var/lib/dwww for tempfiles. This should fix the errors from various
    dwww-* tools that also caused cron.daily/dwww to send a daily complaint
    mail to root.  (Bug#16212)
  * Install the dwww cgi script in /usr/lib/cgi-bin instead of /usr/lib/dwww.
    Changed dwwwconfig to create a copy instead of a symlink of the dwww cgi
    script to the effective cgi-bin directory if it is in a non-standard
    location.  (Bug#11584,22018,22153,22173,23439)
  * Fix $ENV{PATH} in /usr/lib/dwww/dwww.cgi ; don't be so paranoid that
    dwww's children can't find basic stuff like grep and awk anymore.
    (Bug#16506,19045)
  * The "_" character is not a real security hazard. But it is used in a
    surprisingly high number of documentation filenames.
    (Bug#18203,18356,22229,23440)
  * Actually install dwww.1 manpage.  (Bug#9366,9369,9817)
  * Remove old backup file dwww.cgi~ from the source
  * Fixed the following reported lintian errors & warnings:
     - binaries w/o manpages (linked to undocumented.7.gz);  (Bug#8327)
     - don't compress copyright file;
     - do compress manpages;  (Bug#15706)
     - made symlinks to cgidir and webroot absolute.
    This should leave only the warning about the standards version, which
    is a good reminder to really audit dwww sometime soon. (Bug#6356)
  * No need to use the anti-social bashist "function" keyword in a /bin/sh
    script. ;-) (Bug#23624,10713)
  * Added descriptions for manpages in section 3thr (Bug#8875) and section 1db.
  * Added postrm script that can purge /etc/dwww/dwww.conf. (Bug#18110)
  * Added perl to the Depends: because dwwwconfig uses Getopts::Long which
    is only available in perl. (Bug#9101)
  * Added Suggests: lynx.  (Bug#23546)
  * Upped the upstreams version number.

    #23168, important). Changed python-dev/README.Debian to reflect
    this. The intended change of behavior is now projected for slink.

sdc 1.0.8beta-7 -> 1.0.8beta-8 into dists/slink/contrib/binary-i386/text

  * add documents to document registration for targets.sgml and manpage.sgml
  * README.Debian: mention why this package cannot be in main
  * doc/options.text: back-out to upstream version since my mods were
    causing patch to fry for some unknown reason, making it impossible to
    extract the source package
  * doc/Changes.sgml: compress for lintian
  * note: I'm working with the upstream maintainer on what looks like will
    be the next version. Most of the debian patches will be folded in.

sendmail 8.8.8-16 -> 8.8.8-18 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/mail
sendmail (8.8.8-18) frozen; urgency=high
  * Repackaged to apply only to frozen, and bump the severity
    because this problem (22747) has sufficient consequences
    to warrant a change in hamm - only the alias file is changed,
    and it will impact primarily *NEW* installations of sendmail.

----- MEDIUM Urgency Packages -----------

bsdgames-nonfree - collection of text games from BSD systems - nonfree
bsdgames-nonfree 2.1-2 -> 2.1-3 into dists/hamm/non-free/binary-i386/games
bsdgames-nonfree 2.1-2 -> 2.1-3 into dists/slink/non-free/binary-i386/games
bsdgames-nonfree (2.1-3) frozen unstable; urgency=medium
  * Reluctantly removed all sgid bits from rogue, becuase there are probably
    security problems in it. See the TODO, which has a security audit as it's
    first priority, but explains the difficulties of one.
  * Added a README.Debian exaplaining this in greater detail.

bsdgames - collection of text games from BSD systems
bsdgames 2.1-2 -> 2.1-3 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/games
bsdgames 2.1-2 -> 2.1-3 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/games
bsdgames (2.1-3) frozen unstable; urgency=medium
  * Reluctantly removed all sgid bits from all games in the package.
    I have found at least 2 easy exploits of a sgid bit that get you sgid
    games shells, and there are probably many more. See the TODO, which has
    a security audit as it's first priority, but explains the difficulties
    of one.
  * Added a README.Debian exaplaining this in greater detail.

isdnutils  - isdn utilities
isdnutils 2.1.beta1-20 -> 2.1.beta1-23 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/net
isdnutils 2.1.beta1-22 -> 2.1.beta1-23 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/net

  * use start-stop-daemon in cron.weekly script instead of killall; fixes:#23346
  * fixed isdn_audio manpage  fixes:#22784
  * Also to frozen, as the current hamm version is prone to a number of
    buffer overruns etc.!

kbd - Linux console font and keytable utilities.
kbd-data - Data files for kbd.
kbd-data 0.96a-3 -> 0.96a-4 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/base
kbd 0.96a-3 -> 0.96a-4 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/base
kbd (0.96a-4) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Have postinst script remove old buggy '/etc/rcS.d/S??keymaps.sh'
    symlink with question marks in the filename, which made postinst
    obscurely break (Fixes for slink: Bug#20935, Bug#21109, Bug#23639).

kterm      - Multi-lingual terminal emulator for X.
kterm 6.2.0-11 -> 6.2.0-12 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/x11
kterm 6.2.0-11 -> 6.2.0-12 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/x11
kterm (6.2.0-12) frozen unstable; urgency=medium
  * BugFixed: install kterm command with bad file permission.
    Can't save file permission by dh_suidregister, so change order
    dh_fixperms and dh_suidregister.

lambdamoo - a server for an online multiuser virtual world
lambdamoo 1.8.0r5-7 -> 1.8.0r5-8 into dists/hamm/main/binary-i386/net
lambdamoo 1.8.0r5-8 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/net
lambdamoo (1.8.0r5-8) frozen unstable; urgency=medium
  * In init script, redirect stdin, out, and err to /dev/null. Should fix
    critical bug #23314.

libpng2    - PNG library - runtime
libpng2-dev - PNG library - development
libpng2-dev 1.0.1-0.1 -> 1.0.1-0.2 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/graphics
libpng2 1.0.1-0.1 -> 1.0.1-0.2 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/libs
libpng (1.0.1-0.2) unstable; urgency=medium
  * debian/rules (binary-arch): don't call install with -s as an
    argument when installing a shared library; it doesn't know to use
    --strip-unneeded, and we call strip separately later anyway.
  * scripts/makefile.lnx (CFLAGS): killed i386-isms.
  * scripts/makefile.lnx: compiled shared libraries with -D_REENTRANT.
    (The above fixes are from James Troup, who yet again, alerted me to
     my screwups ;)
  * debian/postinst: only call ldconfig if $1 = configure.

----- Low Urgency Packages --------------

alien - Install Red Hat and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.02hamm1 -> 6.03hamm2 into dists/hamm/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.03hamm2) frozen; urgency=low
  * Fixed a security hole in alien generated rpm files that had scripts in
    them, that could allow a user to clobber files on the filesystem. Any
    such alien generated rpm files currently in existence already contain
    this bug, so be careful with them. Such files should be rare, they have
    to be generated by "alien --to-rpm --scripts", however to prevent the
    generation of any more, it's important that this version of alien makes
    its way into debian 2.0.
  * Also, fixed --scripts, --single, and --description, all three of which
    have been broken since alien 6.0.
  * It used to be that only shell scripts could be converted to rpm format,
    because of a stupid bug. Fixed.

alien - Install Red Hat, Stampede, and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.08 -> 6.09 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.09) unstable; urgency=low
  * Added a short document on how to generate a diff file for use by alien.
  * Fixed a security hole in alien generated rpm files that had scripts in
    them, that could allow a user to clobber files on the filesystem. Any
    such alien generated rpm files currently in existence already contain
    this bug, so be careful with them. Such files should be rare, they have
    to be generated by "alien --to-rpm --scripts".
  * That bug is even less likely, becuase it turns out --scripts has been
    broken since alien version 6.0. Oops. Fixed.
  * --single and --description were also broken since 6.0, and are fixed
    now.
  * It used to be that only shell scripts could be converted to rpm format,
    because of a stupid bug. Fixed.
  * There has been a change in how rpm outputs the file list for a
    relocatable package - it used to strip the prefix from each filename,
    and I could get at it in the DEFAULTPREFIX tag. Now it doesn't, and that
    tag doesn't exist. The only change I actually had to make was to make
    alien send rpm's error about DEFAULTPREFIX not being a valid tag to
    /dev/null. All the code for dealing with DEFAULTPREFIX has been left in,
    for backwards compatability.

alien - Install Red Hat, Stampede, and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.09 -> 6.10 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.10) unstable; urgency=low
  * Remove a junk file that crept in in the last version.

alien - Install Red Hat, Stampede, and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.10 -> 6.11 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.11) unstable; urgency=low
  * There was a problem converting rpm packages to tgz and slp formats (and
    to a much lesser degree converting them to dpkg format): any parent
    directories that were not in the rpm, but did have children in the rpm,
    would end up with bad permissions (700). Alien now does a smart scan to
    detect this and changes the permissions to a more sane 755.
  * When converting to slp or tgz, with -g or -s, output informative

    regardless, this should go in hamm because a broken developers
    reference won't win us many friends in hamm, and after all, it's just

  * no content changes, except that the version number in the SGML file

    because of how dpkg -L shows that info. (#23339). It turns out that
    older versions of dpkg-repack packed up not the original file, but the
    file that was diverted to replace it. I've decided that is incorrect
    behavior, and changed it so if there is a diversion, the original file is
    placed in the repacked package.

libpaper (1.0.3-10) unstable frozen; urgency=low
  * Now libpaper does not depend anymore on libpaperg (this was
    the release critical bug#22942). In previous versions, the
    dependency was added so that the executables /usr/bin/paperconf and
    /usr/sbin/paperconfig (that were present only in libpaperg), could
    be used also from the old (i.e., bo) packages that depends on libpaper
    (in bo, libpaper provided both the libraries and the executables,
    so both of them should be provided to a package that depends on libpaper).
    Now, the executables are present in both packages, and libpaperg
    uses dpkg-divert to "move away" the libpaper binaries when
    libpaperg is installed (closes: Bug#22942)
  * Removed "sparc" in debian/rules from the libraries that require
    libc5 support (closes: Bug#22082)

      musixlyr (>= 1:1.1-1), pmx (>= 1.3.8-1)
  * Removed postinst, because it should now be musixlyr's postinst,
    not m-tx's! Now, how did I get the two mixed up? :-)

m-tx - A simple music-from-text language for use with MusiXTeX
m-tx 0.40a-1 -> 0.40a-2 into dists/slink/contrib/binary-i386/tex

      instead of (>= 1:1.1-1). Thanks to Brian White <bcwhite@debian.org>
      for letting me know how to avoid the epoch. :-)

    accommodate for DJGPP, as suggested by upstream author on the
    MuTeX Mailing List.

mtr 0.21-2 -> 0.21-3 into dists/slink/main/binary-i386/net
mtr (0.21-3) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * Release for frozen, since 0.14 isn't even compilable with the current
    frozen environment, is slightly buggy, and has potential security holes
    (being suid for low-level networking) that are addressed by this
    version.

musixlyr - a MusiXTeX extension for handling lyrics
musixlyr 1.02a-2 -> 1.1-1 into dists/hamm/contrib/binary-all/tex

  * [debian/control]: Revised package description;
      and revised dependencies to work with Debian 2.0 (Hamm):
        Depends: tetex-base (>= 0.9-5)
        Recommends: musixtex (>= 1:0.89-2)
        Suggests: pmx (>= 1.3.6-1)
  * [debian/postinst]: Replaced the obsolete append_db command in
    tetex-0.4 with mktexupd in tetex-0.9.
  * Removed debian/postrm.
  * [debian/copyright]: Updated author's e-mail address.
  * [debian/rules]: Added "dh_installexamples auxl-exa.pmx".
  * Not fair! dpkg thinks that 1.1 << 1.02a! Added epoch version.
  * Please put this in Hamm: postinst in previous versions (<= 1.02a-2)
    failed to do its job with tetex-0.9, rendering musixlyr unusable
    for first-time installers.
