  * *sigh* -8.4 had several problematic leftovers from debugging in it:
  * - built with assertions and without _REENTRANT .
    - wrong fix in the library code. (this broke "screen").
  * Despite the bad karma with -8.4, I still feel strongly that this should
    go into frozen, due to the amount and severity of the bugs it fixes.

----- MEDIUM Urgency Packages -----------

base-files - Debian Base System Miscellaneous Files
base-files 1.9 -> 2.0 into dists/hamm/main/binary-all/base
base-files 1.9 -> 2.0 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/base
base-files (2.0) frozen unstable; urgency=medium
  * Removed the "frozen" word from /etc/debian_version.
  * Removed the use of the ROOT variable in preinst and postinst for two
    reasons: a) It is no longer needed, since the base system is built
    by using dpkg's --root=dir option, which works in a chrooted environment;
    and b) Unexpected results would be obtained if user root had actually
    defined a variable named ROOT.

makedev - Creates special device files in /dev.
makedev 1.6-30 -> 1.6-32 into dists/hamm/main/binary-m68k/base
makedev 1.6-32 into dists/slink/main/binary-m68k/base

  * added ipchains-1.3.3 (for kernel 2.1.102 and above)
  * ipchains: wrote some simple manual pages for ipfwadm-wrapper,
	      ipchains-save and ipchains-restore.
  * /etc/init.d/netbase: changed to use ipchains for kernel 2.1.102 and
                         above
  * net-tools: fixed ifconfig (some supported features were not enabled)

  * fixed /bin/vi shell script to handle both quoted file names
  *     and the lack of any arguments using the ${1+"$@"}

dpkg-repack - attempts to put an unpacked .deb file back together
dpkg-repack 0.16 -> 0.17 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
dpkg-repack (0.17) unstable; urgency=low
  * Uses dpkg for querying the status file and getting the file list, rather
    than doing it by hand. However, dpkg-repack still accesses the dpkg
    database directly, becuase it copies maintainer scripts, etc, from
    there. There is no way to get that information via dpkg.
  * Fixed  bug #22603 - a failure when eg. /usr is a symlink.
    .
    If the package contains a file, that locally looks like a symlink
    pointing to a directory that is not in the package, then change it to a
    real directory in the repacked package. This assummes that in this case,
    the symlink was a local change (eg, /usr is a symlink).
    .
    However, if the directory in question contains no files in the filelist
    for this package, don't do that, just preserve the symlink in the repacked
    package. This handles the case where a package contains a symlink to a
    directory elsewhere.

et 80b2-1 -> 80b2-5 into dists/hamm/main/binary-m68k/devel

fileutils 3.16-5.2 into dists/slink/main/binary-m68k/base
fileutils (3.16-5.2) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * *sigh* dircolors.h wasn't properly regenerated; it is now. (Really fixes
    #22177). configure --enable-maintainer-mode for this.

ftplib-dev - Library of callable ftp routines (development)
ftplib3 - Library of callable ftp routines
ftplib-dev 3-2 -> 3-3 into dists/hamm/main/binary-m68k/libs
ftplib-dev 3-2 -> 3-3 into dists/slink/main/binary-m68k/libs
ftplib3 3-2 -> 3-3 into dists/hamm/main/binary-m68k/libs
ftplib3 3-2 -> 3-3 into dists/slink/main/binary-m68k/libs
ftplib (3-3) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * Upgrade to Debian policy 2.4.1:
    Move ldconfig call from ftplib-dev postinst to ftplib3 postinst.
    Only call ldconfig if argument is "configure".

  * New upstream release. The Texinfo manual have been clarified and

    same line). The comment must be before the string to be translated.

ldso 1.9.8-1 -> 1.9.9-1 into dists/hamm/main/binary-m68k/base

lesstif (1:0.83-7) frozen unstable; urgency=low

    use by the lintian web pages, which use the source package directly.
  * (reports/harness) Added hooks to call the depcheck scripts to generate
    the depcheck page.
  * (reports/html_reports) Add links from the lintian root page to the
    depcheck page.
  * (checks/menus) A tag was still generating "existance" while its
    description had been corrected to "existence"; the html report
    generator complained about that.  Fixed.
  * (unpack/list-binpkg) Bugfix in lintian --setup-lab. Instead of
    looking for files in binary-$arch and binary-all, look only in
    binary-$arch and follow the symlinks.
  * (lib/text_utils.pl) Changed "&maint;" name from Christian Schwarz
    to Richard Braakman, and changed mail address to lintian-maint@debian.org.
  * (checks/standards-version) If checking a package with a Standards-Version
    that is newer than the one lintian is written for, warn that lintian
    should be upgraded.  (closes: #22919).
  * (checks/standards-version.dsc)
    New tag: newer-standards-version
  * (checks/debian-readme) New check: at James Troup's suggestion,
    scan for unmodified deb-make templates in README.Debian files.
    New tags:
      readme-debian-is-debmake-template
      readme-debian-contains-debmake-template
  * (checks/debian-readme.desc) Describe new tags.
  * (collection/debian-readme) New collection script for README.Debian file.
  * (man/lintian.1) Describe new check and collection script.
  * (doc/libtool-rpath-workaround.txt) Explain how to achieve the same
    result without touching configure.in and rerunning autoconf, provided
    certain conditions hold.
  * (lib/text_utils.pl, frontend/lintian-info, reporting/html_reports)
    Do not split words that are longer than a line. This fixes the
    "Poli cy" bug in the lintian HTML reports.
  * (checks/standards-version.desc) Corrected the URL to Christian's
    policy upgrading checklist, which seems to have changed from
    "upgrading.html" to "upgrading-checklist.html".
  * (info/override) Removed another *.pm warning, I missed it the last time.

lintian    - Debian package checker
lintian 0.4.5 -> 0.4.6 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/devel
lintian (0.4.6) unstable; urgency=low
  * (debian/control)
    Lintian now depends on perl, since perl-base is not enough. It already
    uses Text::Wrap, which is only in perl, and soon it will also use
    Getopt::Long.
  * (reporting/html_reports)
    Report all dates in GMT, in rfc822 format.
  * (debian/rules)
    In clean target, delete byte-compiled python files (*.pyc) as well.
  * (depcheck/dependencies.py)
    Check "Cannot satisfy without packages in base" before checking
    "Cannot satisfy with required packages", because a dependency will
    be listed in only one category, and the former is more important
    to flag.
  * (frontent/lintian)
    Rewrote option handling to use Getopt::Long, thus allowing nifty
    features like bundling of single-character options. Closes wishlist
    bug#22566.

makepatch - generate patch files with more functionality than plain diff
makepatch 1.13-1 -> 1.13-3 into dists/hamm/main/binary-all/utils
makepatch 1.13-3 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/utils
makepatch (1.13-3) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * Oops, upload to frozen in addition to unstable. This version contains
    only two bug fixes, one is for a security hole (#21563).
  * Update the list of changes from the standard distribution in the
    copyright file.

man-db     - Display the on-line manual.
man-db 2.3.10-64 -> 2.3.10-65 into dists/hamm/main/binary-m68k/doc
man-db 2.3.10-64 -> 2.3.10-65 into dists/slink/main/binary-m68k/doc
man-db (2.3.10-65) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * added correction to spanish translations supplied by Santiago Vila.
    (closes: #21240)
  * Added a check for the availability of the executable "mail" otherway the
    postinst could fail.
  * Modifyed the check for update-menus to be on a single line for lintian,
    and to have safe exit point for failure of test.
  * Cleaned cron.weekly from call to the no-more existent utility mkcatdirs,
    whose presence make people (actually me, which is even worse) think that
    catpages were purged weekly, which is no more the case since 2.3.10-60
    Also lowered (from 7 to 6) the days of non-access to purge catpages,
    because the weekly access for rebuilding the database would always keep
    the atime lower than 7. (Thanx to Nicolás Lichtmaier for having tampered
    me untill I noticed that :-)

mh - Rand mail handling system.
mh 6.8.4-24 -> 6.8.4-25 into dists/hamm/main/binary-m68k/mail
mh 6.8.4-24 -> 6.8.4-25 into dists/slink/main/binary-m68k/mail
mh (6.8.4-25) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * security paranoia: remove setuidness on install programs
    /usr/lib/mh/popwrd and /usr/lib/mh/spop; you'll have to manually
    setuid them if you care to, but it's not recommended. Now there are
    only two setgid mail programs (inc and msgchk), and no setuid ones.
    This fix prevents certain future security conditions, so should go
    into hamm.
  * /usr/lib/mh/replcomps: rollback what was done in -23 (closes
    Bug#22141, opens Bug#6030, which was fixed in the wrong way)

mon - monitor hosts/services/whatever and alert about problems
mon 0.37k-1 -> 0.37k-2 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin

  * Add patch from Dave Holland to allow smtp.monitor to handle multiline
    responses (closes: #21274).

    required packages depend on them. (fixes: #22342, #22343)
