Package: debian-cd
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I have two older computers with Intel D865GBFLK motherboards (~2003)
and Pentium 4 HT CPU's. They both have the latest available BIOS
installed. I would like to put Debian on them.

I have downloaded:

    debian-8.7.1-i386-xfce-CD-1.iso

When I put the ISO on a CD-R, it boots correctly.

When I put the ISO on a USB flash drive and boot it:

    isolinux.bin missing or corrupt

The same USB flash drive boots correctly in newer computers.

Memtest86+ 5.01 on a USB flash drive boots correctly in the older
computers.

My conclusion is that the ISO is not compatible with the BIOS in the
older computers.

Hi,

syslinux has been upgraded in both stretch and jessie in their
respective recent point release (9.3 and 8.10) to address the issue.
Buster/sid also have a fixed syslinux version since ~mid October.

I've just confirmed that the fix is present in the most recent "netinst"
CDs for stretch [1] and jessie [2] (using the snippet provided by Thomas
Schmitt). And any newly created CDs should no longer suffer fron this
issue. Therefore I'm closing the bug.

Thanks everyone for debugging, fixing and testing!

Regards
Lukas
