(This is about the aspect Mac mountability, not about the aspect of
 suitable performance during or after installation..)

It is nearly 4 GB of size.

The first experiment to do is quite simple:

  dd if=/dev/zero bs=2K count=16 >test.iso
  dd if=debian-8.6.0-i386-DVD-1.iso bs=2K skip=16 >>test.iso

If this does not help with mountability of "test.iso", then the other
experiments are futile.

In case of mountability after above experiment, the xorriso runs would be
of interest because the CD ISO is mountable on Mac despite having the nearly
same isohybrid equipment as the DVD ISO.
The old theory was that some Macs dislike isohybrid.
This does not hold in this case.
Maybe this Mac dislikes some finer details of Debian isohybrid ISOs.
