Bug#629492: cdrom: Installing on dual-processor PowerPC system (ex. QuickSilver PowerMac G4) installs non-SMP kernel
Package: cdrom
Severity: important
Tags: d-i
Installing a fresh base system on a dual processor PowerPC system, such as in my case a QuickSilver PowerMac G4 with dual 800MHz CPU's will fail SMP detection and instead install a non-SMP kernel by default.
Installing the SMP kernel metapackage after the system install is done detects the dual-processor configuration normally.
Here is the system immediately after installation:
pengc99@baccus:~$ uname -r
2.6.32-5-powerpc
pengc99@baccus:~$
Now install the SMP kernel:
root@baccus:~# apt-get install linux-image-powerpc-smp
root@baccus:~# apt-get install linux-image-powerpc-smp
<!-- lots of installing stuff here --!>
root@baccus:~#
Now reboot and check kernel:
root@baccus:~# uname -r
2.6.32-5-powerpc-smp
root@baccus:~#
