Thanks for the patch, but please see the discussion about this option in 
the following thread:

As you can see my opinion is that the option no longer has any real value 
and should probably just be dropped.

Also, your patch does not cover the "alternative desktop environment" 
configuration files that we now have on quite a few images. If that is 
added the total thing becomes so complex that it IMO really is more 
trouble than it's worth.

Unless very strong arguments can be given why this should be preserved, I 
plan to remove the broken existing code shortly.
