md5sums of dvd iso images does not match burned dvdrs

Greetings,
having recently aquired a dvdr burner I used jigdo to build the dvd iso images for debian-31r0a-i386-binary-[1-2].iso

The .iso foiles match the md5sums provided.

I then used k3b to burn the image debian-31r0a-i386-binary-1.iso on a dvd-r disc. The md5sum for the device with the burned dvd-r differs from the md5sum for the iso image.

I burned a second dvd-r and it had the same md5sum as the first one.

When burning the third dvd-r I set k3b to check the disc after burning it and it said that "written image seems binary equal".

All threee dvd-rs have the same md5sum, which differs from the md5sum for the iso image...

bobson@.../dvimage/i386/jigdo-dvd$ md5sum /dev/hdd
b73629b6723b4e308d348ca17ea78398 /dev/hdd

the above sum is returned for each of the three dvd-rs with ...i386-binary-1.iso on them.

bobson@.../dvimage/i386/jigdo-dvd$ cat MD5SUMS
d6eeef5a49ff851839bc514cc56f305a debian-31r0a-i386-binary-1.iso
662bc504659baaff5e0a5226c86ec8a6 debian-31r0a-i386-binary-2.iso

with CDr I remember that one could md5sum the disc and it would match the md5sum for an iso image. This I believe was achieved by padding the iso image when it was generated. Shouldn't this also happen with dvd images, so one could check the burned disc against the md5sum for the image?

Please advise.

Thank You
B.
