Two thought on freebsd-manpages.
Dear all,
I feel compelled to express two thoughts regarding the package
"freebsd-manpages".
* Inappropriate priority.
The manual pages should really be available immediately upon
installing a GNU/kFreeBSD system, since the contents are vital
for running a system. The package "manpages" is full of linuxisms
and is distributed with priority "important". Would it be feasible
to assign "freebsd-manpages2 to "kfreebsd-any" and increase
the priority to "important"?
* Access ordering of identically named pages.
Consider this response:
$ man -a -w socket
/usr/share/man/man2/socket.2.gz (linux oriented)
/usr/share/man/man2/socket.2freebsd.gz
/usr/share/man/man9/socket.9freebsd.gz
/usr/share/man/man7/socket.7.gz (linux oriented)
/usr/share/man/man3/socket.3pm.gz
The preference of "2" in favour of "2freebsd" is unfortunate.
It can be amended by a simple alteration:
### /etc/manpath.config
SECTION 1 n l 8 3 2freebsd 2 3posix 3pm 3perl 5 4 9 6 7
where "2freebsd" has been added in front of "2". Could there
be any prospect in making "man-db" install such a modified
configuration for "kfreebsd-any"?
Best regards,
Mats Erik Andersson
