Please can you try if this happens with an upstream kernel?
kfreebsd-downloader package is now available to make it easy to do
this kind of checks:

http://incoming.debian.org/kfreebsd-downloader_9.0~rc2-1_all.deb

Simply boot with kfreebsd 8.x, install kfreebsd-downloader, and reboot
with 9.0-RC2.
