Re: d-i fails to create a file system (squeeze kfreebsd amd64)

Right, I encountered that, too.
But I actually WAS installing on a GPT disk and the partition sure was "primary" -- which didn't help it either.
It didn't fail actually to create a partition, it just failed to format it into UFS.
So I just used my existing FreeBSD installation (residing on my primary partition #9) to create a ufs filesystem (newfs /dev/ad14p14).

BTW: is there a way to MANUALLY create a UFS filesystem from the shell, switching from the ncurses debian-installer by Alt-F2? Which command does debian-installer use to create UFS filesystem?

This is a known bug, see:

A workaround is to disable use of any partition other than the
first one (primary), or switch to GPT.
