On gdm3 start, or restart, only a black screen is displayed with an X shaped X cursor with the cursor moveable. If I try to change to a console VT then this appears to trigger a new X session to start and this is displayed rather than the console VT. This new X session is also black with an X shaped X cursor with the cursor moveable. This keeps happening until eventually I can switch to a console VT. (#592549).
