Comments/Problems:
I had definitely more troubles than usual with this installation.
I cannot understand why.
The box has 2 SSD drives (which I joined in software RAID1) and 6 mechanical
disks (which I joined in software RAID6).
The first problem I encountered is that, after the first questions
(language, country, locale, keymap), the debian-installer failed
to automatically mount the installation media.
The USB stick was still connected, but d-i kept saying that it could
not detect the installation media and kept suggesting that it could
be an ejected CDROM. It did not offer me to load additional modules
or to specify the /dev file to be mounted. It just kept offering me
to retry or to give up. Retrying led to a new failure, while giving up
left the step incomplete and the installation could not go on.
I tried executing a shell and checked that the two USB partitions
were accessible: I could mount both of them (/dev/sdi1 and /dev/sdi2)
temporarily on /mnt and their content was there.
I searched for bug reports on the BTS, but found nothing relevant.
I searched the web and found some obscure forum (forgot which one),
that suggested to manually mount the correct /dev file on /cdrom .
Hence, I re-executed a shell and issued:
# mount /dev/sdi1 /cdrom
# exit
At that point, re-running the "Detect hardware and mount installation
media" step succeeded.
I don't know why d-i could not automatically mount /dev/sdi1
(maybe because there are 8 other drives before it?!? but why didn't
it ask me to specify the correct /dev file to mount, then?!?).
The second problem I encountered was during the base system
installation.
The mdadm package complained that the root partition is on RAID
and that no systemd has been detected. It should be this [commit]
of the mdadm Debian package. I just hit Continue, but I think that
this warning is wrong, at least within the debian-installer,
where (unless I am mistaken) no systemd is running, but that does
not mean that no systemd will run on the target system that is
being installed!

Right after the base system installation, I encountered the third
problem. The "Configure the package manager" step was stuck in
an infinite loop: I was presented the choice of which step to perform
next, I chose "Configure the package manager" (since the base system
was successfully installed), and it just flashed the screen and then
I was again presented the choice of which step to perform next.
I searched for bug reports on the BTS, but found nothing relevant.
I searched the web and found nothing.
Then I noticed that, in /var/log/syslog, there was the following
error:

I searched the web again and found this forum [thread], which
suggested to manually unmount /cdrom (if previously manually mounted).

Hence, I re-executed a shell and issued:
# umount /cdrom
# exit
At that point I could choose "Configure the package manager" and
complete the installation...
Please fix these issues that spoil an otherwise smooth installation
experience.
