Also I just used

systemctl set-default multi-user.target to change to a console log in.

I cannot log in as user, only as root.

GUI can also only be started as root.

Have espeakup in console by as soon as log into Mate using root account, no sound, Orca setup has no speech settings.

You did not provide useful information about the installation, so there is
no way to debug your situation.

You should provide the installer log files (to be found in /var/log/installer).
Sent them compressed to this bugreport.

I ran a test installation of Debian 11 with MATE, and everything seems to work
fine so far...
