Comments/Problems:

Following the way to build the complete image shown in the README,
I am able to boot and begin the installation process.
When it comes to the `Download installer components' part I get the
message `No kernel modules found'.
I checked internet connection, nameserver resolution, I tried
different mirrors and I tried images from other days but I still
get the same message.

By searching to solve the issue I found this forum post[1] (see problem
4) that describe the same issue and that recommend to report this here.

Things should be better since the Linux kernel packages migrated to
testing, and since the release of D-I Bullseye RC 1:
  https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2021/04/msg00011.html

Closing as I expect this should fix your problem, but feel free to
reopen with more details in case the RC 1 images don't work for you.

Cheers,
