Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
We use netinstall on buster with this kernel image: https://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/amd64/daily/netboot/debian-installer/amd64/linux
And after boot installer shows message "Network device not found"

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
When I started built-in into installer shell I was able able to bring up link with command:
 ip l set eth0 up
and after that I've exit from shel, press option to detect network and installation was completed after that succsessfully
We did another test and put contain of this package https://packages.debian.org/buster/all/firmware-realtek/filelist into /lib/firmware folder with cookinitrd scripts
After this installer became work as expected.

Hi,

since we have some kind of a next-generation installer, when it comes to
installation of (non-free) firmware, I'm closing all related old bugreports.

They have been helpful at the time, when they were filed, however now we have
a completely new situation / mechanism in place for this, so let's make a cut
now and close such bugs, and let people file new ones with recent installer
versions, if they still experience problems.

Thanks to all reporters!

Holger
