Thanks for digging into this!

The best way forward is to open a severity:important bug against the
libefiboot1 package here. Could you do that please?

I'll prep a stable update with that fix backported, and ask the
release team for approval. That should be an easy thing to get here,
looking at the code changes. We have a few days before the window
closes for uploads for the next Buster point release, so it should be
possible.
